Cooking up great design with Blackheath Cooks

The excitement of sending a new website project live never goes away – we still get a ‘proud as punch’ feeling each time we hit the button. There have been a number of websites that we have sent live recently, including that of the attractive and functional Blackheath Cooks site.

Business owner Joy Neal came to us regarding her creative cookery school and cookware shop, as she recognised that she needed to improve the functionality of the website that she already had. She was seeking a website package that would offer her just one location for all her updates, one that would enable her to keep in touch with her customers and suppliers through an accessible email marketing system and provide her with very user friendly database functionality. She had heard about the eFusion technologies we use and was keen to find out more.

Joy recognised the need for a better site as her business grew. She wanted to be able to do more but did not want the headache of having to update lots of different things in a number of places. She desired the ability of being able to keep in touch with her customers and suppliers, providing them with updated course information and reminders. Having realised that with us, she had found the perfect online business partner as well as automated email marketing system, she gave the project its go ahead and we began to move her design across from her previous hosts.

Since lifting the site across from Godfather Creative, it has continued to blossom. It now offers a great blog for online visitors, a nifty events calendar and simple course booking functionality; all brilliantly useful, especially for the keen culinary bods that see an appealing course that they want to be signed up to, out of office hours.

The site supports a popular trend too, certainly as more and more people are taking an interest in home cooking. Since the televised Masterchef competitions, a fashion with finding art through cooking has inspired many to want to learn how create great looking, healthy and delicious tasting meals – something Blackheath Cooks are there to help their clients discover.

Delighted with the new site, Joy says “It’s great to teach general and advanced cooking skills to enthused people who want to take part in my cookery courses. What’s encouraging is the number of younger people that are coming along to my classes and after school clubs too. Parents and children alike began asking me about courses to take part in and that’s when our renowned Munchkins Club was born alongside the ever popular teen and student groups. Cooking is fun – we are happy to cater for all needs and requirements – even hen and stag do’s!”

South East Business Show success for Website Team

It was a pleasant morning for the Website Success team, consisting of Nick Fenmor Collins and Kylee Charles as they set to keenly network with attendees and standholders at the 2012 South East Business Show.

Held at Millennium Conference Centre, Effingham Park, Gatwick, the location provided ample space for all 135 exhibiting businesses to set up their display stands, arrange marketing materials and neatly place an array tempting treats in dishes and bowls to further entice potential passing trade.

Armed with banner stands to showcase the companies new branding, lots of free helpful literature and examples of performance reports, the stage was set for the enthused Website Success team by the start of the show.

A steady flow of customers peaked at lunchtime, with a number of the local businesses popping in to see just what the show's exhibitors could offer them. The footfall variety, including blue chip multi- nationals, through to entrepreneurial sole traders was. "Just about right for us" said Nick. "It's funny, I think the mark of a good show certainly comes when you notice that you've missed the ordering time for the sandwiches!" He added.

Once the team had stopped for bit to eat at about 14:00, it was the end of the show soon after. Armed with some great leads in the form of potential collaborations and new prospects, the team packed up the car and headed back to their central Chichester office.

In its second year, the organisers of the show sell its format as being "A unique event, as it unites all sectors of business and is the only marketing medium that brings the buyer, seller and products together at the same time and in the same place."

"I think we will certainly consider taking a stand at the show again next year" Kylee said. "Once we can properly evaluate what our return on our investment is, it is an event that we may ensure we place firmly in to next year's events schedule."

Chichester Business Utilises Energy Efficiency

After occupying new and larger offices to aid their business growth last year, the team at Website Success were delighted when their application to receive an UTILISE Action Grant to upgrade their boiler and insulate their loft space was awarded.

The grant programme was run by the West Sussex Sustainable Business Partnership CIC to encourage energy efficiency improvements for West Sussex businesses. The project with Website Success involved replacing an aging 65% efficient boiler with an A-rated 88.9% efficient combination boiler. The new boiler also connected to their kitchen and bathroom sinks, allowing the removal of an aging individual electric water heater that was very temperamental!

The scheme helped many businesses within the County to take a more energy efficient approach to conducting business practices.

Rowan Wallis of the Sustainable Business Partnership commented “We were impressed by Website Success’ logical approach to improving the energy efficiency of their building. Whilst the grant scheme has unfortunately now come to a close, I think the initiatives Website Success have taken, such as the loft insulation, selecting efficient lighting and IT equipment and engaging staff to be energy aware, really still highlight the quick-win opportunities for businesses to reduce their environmental impact and their utility bills.”

As part of the programme, Website Success also received a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) to show the improved efficiency of their building one year on from the project installation. Calculated using electricity and gas meter readings recorded over the year, they received an impressive B-rating for efficiency (a typical building usually being D or E rated). The DEC now hangs pride of place in office!

Nick Fenmor Collins, founder and Director of Website Success was really pleased to receive the certificate. “For the size of the building, it just goes to show how energy efficient you can be when you try. The boiler and insulation have helped, as have using modern Apple Mac computers for all our design and development work.”

Looking forward to the future, the Chichester web developers are in the process of installing a shower room in the premises. Staff had indicated how being able to run and cycle to work would be made so much more pleasurable if a shower could be had once arriving at work. Nick added “We can’t wait to get the shower installed. It means we can cut down our fuel consumption with getting into work, just as we have with being at work!”

As the days are getting longer and the nights a little lighter we are embracing the opportunity to refresh and renew. We changed the look and feel of our own website at the beginning of the year and are delighted with the feedback we’ve received.
